What is VoIP?
VoIP stands for VOICE over Internet Protocol. A landline call that is carried over the internet as opposed to the traditional copper cables. Calls can be made via a VOIP phone or a soft phone ( mobile app on the cell phone) . They both work the same , they both need internet whether the phone connects via LAN to your router in the office or you connect to your mobile data/WIFI on your cell using the app. Calls are dependant on the quality of the internet.
When VOIP was introduced , internet connections were at very low levels and thus affecting call quality giving VOIP a reputation of poor quality, however in recent years internet connectivity has improved so much that call quality is perfect on VOIP , and even better than the original copper cable qualities.
What is VOIP and the advantage over conventional copper cable set up is that you can immediately pick up and go to another location with out a major inconvenience. Call rates are also cheaper as the infrastructure is also cheaper benefitting the end user. This also opens up the possibility of having multiple providers and thus leading to more competition.
